Suggestions: In the refugee camp it was great to experience getting crowded into a tent with way more people than could fit. Unfortunately, the people in front were on their knees and the people in back couldn't see. Directions should be given for people in front to sit on their bottoms. Or maybe somehow construct it so people in back are higher (this could be tricky :)

The airplane scene: It was a good idea. However, it didn't make THAT much of an impression (of all the rooms) I think it kind of had to do with being surrounded by a majority of white/American people. I'm not sure. But I didn't really feel singled out. Maybe have more eastern looking people mingled in the mix, where it feels like I'm more of a minority would help...

The most impressionable phrase to me was when we were all round up as foreigners and put in a prison cell. And as we were leaving I believe an actor yelled, "I'm not even from Europe." That was a really good line to make you think...

I loved the back of the van scene. It really felt like we were being round up and stoved in. And I totally thought it was a real van in the lighting. Good job!

I think the point behind the airplane scene was not so much the being singled out but the power point. Why dont we call white terrorists Terrorists? We seem to understand that people like McVeigh and Kazinki and Riley are "extremist" that don't represent White people in general but we don't seem to know that the men that blew up the WTC are also extremists that do not represent the entire Islamic and Muslim community!

Well then that point was poorly illustrated, since as a participant that's not at all what I went away with. It was a good idea, but could use some work to really draw the point home. Better luck next year.

Advertise this blogging more. I would have thought a lot more people would be commenting, but I'd say I wrote about half of them. Not sure what the deal is; maybe it just needs to be emphasized more. Perhaps next year hand out a little piece of paper with the blog address on it as people leave. Blogging can create great discussion if there's enough participation...
